Viking Sewing Machine Case
Does anyone know how to get the cabinet off a Viking 150 E sewing machine?
I have the above machine and need to check on replacing the socket for the bulb. I’ve worked on my own machines for years, but I can’t figure for the life of me how to get the casing off so I can get to the insides. Any suggestions?
If you don’t have a manual, that would normally tell you how to change the light, then you have several options.
1) Find a manual and read for yourself. Check out online manual sellers; or check out manuals on ebay.
2) Another one would be to take it to a sew and vac repair or a Viking dealer and ask them how it is done. Should be no charge or a nominal charge which would be fair.
3) Another would be to join a group such as yahoo groups — http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vikingsewingmachinespre1980 or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wefixit and ask them. The vikingsewingmachinepre1980 group is where the Viking experts are. The second group has sewing machine repair guys and gals who fix all brands of machines. It is worth it to join either or both.
FWIW: My Viking #1 has a clear plastic shield up over where the needle bar comes down and if yours is the same, you’d have to carefully figure out how to move it — to pop it out without breaking off the tabs. If yours has that then you can usually get at the light bulb, or you might even need the light bulb remover tool (depends on your machine if it has one) to get it out. Some lamps turn and some push up and turn and some just pull straight out. You need to know what lamp style your machine uses.
