Sewing Upholstery Tips

Singer Sew machine 1525?
I have a Singer model 1525 sewing machine. My first question:
The needle isn’t moving. I’ve had this machine for quite a while…I’d day at least 4 years. It’s been fine. but right now it seems jammed. It’s threaded right, the bobin and everything below is fine, no thread wrapped around anything, but the thing just doesn’t move! When I step on the pedal, I can hear it trying to work, but nothing happens. When trying to do it manually (the knob on the side) it doesn’t move either. I even unthreaded it entirely (bobin case included) and nothing happens. Do I need a new belt or sumthin? Around how much would that cost(since I’m askin questions)?
Next question: When/if I get this baby back up and running, is any1 sure if this model will sew marine vinyl(like on the seats of a boat)? and any tips on that other than a long stitch and a sharp leather needle? Is a nylon thread for upholstery good?
If you haven’t kept it oiled and greased inside or if you have a piece of brken needle or thread under the bobbin mechanism the machine will jam. Easy fix, take it in. Depending on your area, in mine it would be about $50.
If it’s a belt, about the same.
I think it would sew marine vinyl. Test and see if the machine feeds a seam through easily. If not stop, you could cause some bigger repairs. Most machines will sew small projects but if you do it often you need a sturdier machine like one of the old singer straight stitch machines–great for upholstry.
Good luck, I would be very lonely if my machine was not working— 911. Deb
