How can I make a sturdy table from a granite counter top?
I got a free granite counter top, about 3×3 feet, that I want to make a small sewing table from (so it needs to NOT be wobbly, any wobble in the table will be emphasized with a running machine on it).
I have a basic knowledge of making furniture, and normally I would just throw some wood legs together, but this sucker is pretty heavy. What are some ideas other than wood legs that I can use to hold my table up? What are some things I should look out for? I plan to use PL construction adhesive to attach the granite slab to whatever legs I use. Is that sufficient to hold it?
I have a 3′ x 5′ granite top. I bought a metal Gorilla brand storage rack system. Been using it for years. Metal, rock steady and no tools needed to put the thing together.
I got mine from Costco. Maybe they still carry it or Sam’s Club or most any hardware store. Glue your granite top onto a 5/8 or 3/4 inch plywood base for added support.
