if you are a mentor to people can you charge them for your help?
through a yahoo group (it is a group of women in my religious community and i only know some of them), i had a woman call me up and ask if i could mentor her child for a sewing project. i have 4 years experience with sewing and have taken several classes at one of the community colleges. i had no idea who this woman was. she wanted me to spend my time and gas driving to her home and not reimburse me for anything. i asked her for only $7/hour, less than minimum wage (seattle)! she told me “no i’m looking for a mentor from the community to help my daughter because she is doing this for a school project and it can’t be paid for. it can’t be something like a class or service.”my question is if you are a mentor or tutor can you charge for your time and service?
Mentors are Volunteers… you sound like you want to be a teacher or a tutor. Teachers & tutors as well as counselors can charge fees for service. We have “Michael’s” stores here in the west & they have free help as well as classes for hundreds of craft projects.
