Sewing Machine Question; What do you think of the Singer 7466?

I’ll be taking a few courses (just the few I can afford) on sewing and fashion design in a few months, and I’m looking for a sewing machine that will last me even when I start making clothes to sell. I’ve done some research and I’ve seen some good reviews about the 7466. Do you think it would serve my purpose, or should I get something else? I’d like some expert opinion from people in here rather than go to a dealer to let them decide. Thanks so much and God bless.

Also, what are the pros and cons of getting a mechanical or computerized/electronic sewing machine. Thanks again!

A sewing machine dealer is an expert! If you go to a dealer, you can try machines before you buy. Dealers are trained to help people figure out which machines will suit their purpose. They can also keep you supplied in bobbins, feet, accessories, needles, and keep you machine in good repair. They can also help you if the machine isn’t working correct or if it needs repairs. I have a mechanical and an electronic/computer machine, and both have performed well. I prefer the electronic one, fewer knobs and dials and buttons to fiddle with. Just stay away from the expensive top of the line machines with the fancy embroidery hoops and motifs. Unless you plan on sewing duckies and bunnies, they aren’t worth the expense, and the machine will still spend most of its time doing straight and zig zag sewing.
If you get to the point you want to make things to sell, then you’ll need more than a household machine. I have a 20U machine and it can sew 10 hour a day seven days a week. There isn’t a home machine that can do that. I bought my industrial from a dealer, he keeps it in tip top running condition.
Buy what you need now, and then move up when you are ready.
