Sewing Machine won’t catch the thread!?
I have a Brother XL2600i. I just got it, and I have never used a sewing machine before in my life. I’ve followed the directions, and looked around the net, but I can’t figure out why the needle won’t catch the thread from the bobbin! It’s in there the right way, with the thread coming out, but when I lower and raise the needle, it won’t take the thread. Can someone please tell me what the hay I’m doing wrong?
Also, do I have to have the upper and lower threading done? Or can I do one or another?

Just wanted to add that the needles and everything was set up when I got it, so it shouldn’t be the needle. I guess?
You put the bobbin thread in w/ some thread sticking out. Then thread upper needle. Turn the knob to make needle go down, hold onto excess thread from top, when you pull back up the thread underneath should have caught on. Then you take the two and move to the back. Then when you start to sew, they will be together.
See if the bobbin area isnt too tight that it wont let the bobbin turn. And that you have enough thread on top to hold onto to start it. If everything is in place properly, not too tight or caught, it should work just fine.
Try searching sewing sites to get a photo directions to help.
