What age are the majority of people who sew?
This is for my D&T project. Stereotypes tell me its people over 60. Im sure its common with younger people aswell.
What is the main age group the majority of those who sew?
Do many men sew?

Age-wise, it’s pretty well spread across the board. The main difference is why people sew.
Prior to 1950-1960ish, many people sewed clothes — because there weren’t that many avenues to purchase ready-to-wear clothes. No Targets, Walmarts, Rue 21’s, etc, etc. Just Sears and Penneys — mail order stuff. You sewed to clothe your family.
As the retail market changed, people could purchase ready-to-wear for less than it cost to make sew them. The only two reasons left to sew were for the enjoyment of sewing AND in order to create higher quality or interesting pieces. That’s still pretty much true today.
So, while the number of people sewing today is less percentage-wise than it was 50 years ago, the percent of people who do it for pleasure or for quality/design reasons may actually be a little higher than it was back then. Again, ages are spread across the map.
Don’t know about many men sewing, but men do sew. Some may do it for outdoor reasons — sailmaking, making backpacks or seatcovers, things like that. Basically, a sewing machine is just a power tool. Men use power tools — so there’s no stigma there.
