Sewing Darts Stitch

sewing darts stitch
Back stitching Question?

I sewing a sample dart; I was wondering if I have to backstitch all the way to the point, and then sew forward? How do I do this?

Thanks!!! :)

Don’t do it. You’ll often get a dimple that can’t be pressed out.
Your choice:
1) sew off the end of the dart point; hand-knot the thread ends.
2) decrease stitch size to very small at the end
3) (my favorite, but fussy:) Pull up about 1.5 dart lengths of bobbin thread. Unthread the top of the machine, and thread the top *backwards* (needle to spool, not spool to needle) using the bobbin thread end. Tie the end of the bobbin thread to the spool thread and wind up the top thread so everything looks “normal” — no loose loops of thread. Sew the dart backwards, starting from the point.

Try your method with the backstitched tip, and my three methods. Press them all open and see what they look like. If you’ve got a couple of different weight fabrics to make samples in, so much the better.
