Sewing Baby Blankets Fabric

Baby needs blanket to sleep soundly. Worried about SIDS. Any safe products you know of?
My daughter is almost 6 months old and loves sleeping with a blanket or burp cloth. She puts it in her mouth and falls right asleep. If we take it away, she wakes up almost immediately. We’ve tried pacifiers, but she doesn’t care for them. I’m wondering if there are any products out there that will allow her to sleep with something while not increasing the risk of SIDS. I’m not talking about those wearable blankets. She doesn’t use the blanket to keep her warm, she just chews on it. I was thinking of sewing a piece of extra fabric onto her sleeve to she could suck on that. Any ideas or products you know of?
Since, at six months, she could probably move her head or move the blanket if she was uncomfortable, it probably wouldn’t be too much concern for SIDS.
My suggestion, though, would be to keep the blanket small – maybe the size of a washcloth. That way, it should be big enough that she wouldn’t choke, but small enough that she couldn’t get tangled in it.
You might get a small piece of soft, but fairly thin, fabric and hem the edges for her. Soft flannel or cotton knit might be cozy for her but still breathable.
If you decide to sew fabric onto her sleeve, just make sure that it is sewn on securely and that it’s too big for her to choke on if she does get it off.
Another idea might be a small stuffed animal or cloth doll that is made for babies. There are some that are very soft and have limbs or even ears that would be big enough for her to suck or chew on. They are usually sewn securely with no removable parts for her to choke on.
If you are worried, though, you could always check with your daughter’s pediatrician.
Good luck!
