i need ideas for a quilting project for a school where the students aren’t allowed to use needles. any ideas?
it is a public school in the bronx, where i am doing a month-long residency in their after-school program. i am a mixed-media artist, and have been quilting a lot lately and doing textile arts. the program coordinator thinks it would be great for the kids to do a community quilting project, but the kids are in a sort of high-risk school and aren’t allowed to have needles. i am trying to think of ways to applique using fabric glue, crayons and embellishments on squares of muslin and then maybe fasten the squares to one another using grommets and yarn or something. does anyone here have any experience or ideas for this kind of thing? my main concern is that the kids have fun and complete a really great finished product.

There are many ideas. Many do not require needles and use glues that are non toxic.
You will have to do the cutting at home….I doubt if scissors are allowed.
