Linen Sewing Thread
Need help adjusting my sewing machine…?
I am a beginning sewer, and am trying to sew some things. I have the machine set to sew straight and somehow the tension is wrong, the thread from the bobbin is bunching up underneath and I keep trying to adjust it to no avail. Called mom, she is working,,, lol. Any help?? If it helps I’m just sewing linen.
What appears to be the bobbin thread is actually the needle thread. Here’s how it works: each time your needle goes down and then back up, a length of thread roughly equal to the outside diameter of the hook and bobbin case comes from the eye of the needle and around the lower thread. This length of thread (minus the stitch length) is pulled back out of the fabric by the take up lever. This requires that the upper end of the thread be held tightly, and this is accomplished by the upper tension assembly. To ensure that the tension assembly is able to do its’ job, the thread MUST be between the discs of the tension and the tension should be set between 4 and 5 for best results. Re-thread your upper thread, ensuring that the presser foot lever is lifted to release pressure on the tension discs or the thread may not be between the discs.
