sewing question-can high test fishing line be used in a sewing machine?
im interested in sewing up some ballistics grade kevlar fabric & i want to use thread that is VERY unlikely to break & the first thing that came to my mind was high test fishing line-what do you guys think?
thats what i figured-so what kind of sewing machine would be necessary/what would need to be done to a standard one to make this work? im perfectly fine with butcher/frankenstein’ing a damn sewing machine lol
A home sewing machine should be able to handle this.
Coats & Clark Dual Duty thread is poly and holds up better than cotton or nylon thread.
The “invisible” nylon threads come in clear and smoke, but are difficult to sew with.
Whichever thread you decide on, test it on a scrap of the fabrics you will be sewing.
You may have to lengthen the stitch length and reduce to tension a bit.
Make your sample the same thickness as the garment.
Size 14 sewing machine needle and if available, an even-feed (walking foot) presser foot for the sewing machine.
