Gutermann Thread
what is a brand of sewing thread which isn’t too expensive but runs smoothly in a sweing machine.?
What’s the cheapest brand of thread which runs smoothly in a sewing machine, it doesn’t need to be real strong for seams or anything, just not jam my sewing machine.
I use proper Gutermann for anything where i need strength in a seam, but that’s a bit expensive for some things where there is a lot of stitching but i don’t really need the strength (e.g. zig zag stitch to keep an edge from fraying). I tried some REALLY cheap stuff (about 5% the price of Gutermann) but the machine kept jamming up.
my machine runs fine on good thread, i just need an affordable smooth runnning thread
and i think the tensioner was where it was jamming, so i don’t think the wax idea will work
with the really cheap thread the thread would form big mesy tangles on the under-side of the fabric, but i put in a different thread in the bobbin and it seemed it was the spool thread that was talgling, just on the bobbin side, th thread would also break now and then, gutermann doesn’t do any of this.
Your thread is messy on the bobbin side due to the method of threading the machine.
Always thread the machine with the presser foot up. This opens the tension control and allows the thread to enter where it can be properly fed through the needle.
Try this and sew a few inches on scraps to see if this is the problem.
The bobbin case and surrounding area needs to be cleaned often as lint and thread snips can accumulate and cause the stitching to be off.
Watch for sales and stock up on the basic colors and neutrals.
I use Coats & Clarks and nothing from the cheap-o bin in the sewing notions area.
