Advice on sewing scissors for lefties?
Hello, I’m a lefty and it’s sooo frustrating to find true left handed scissors. I am looking for something in between my 8″ Ginghers and 4.25″ Mundial embroidery scissors.
Any sewers out there with experience and advice on what I should get? I just want a good pair/good brand for sewing that is in between the two, as the 8″ are too heavy for certain things and the others are too small for certain things. I’m wondering if you can tell me what you think are useful. (I am certain I will have to order online as most places only stock 8″ lefties.) If you aren’t a lefty, please just let me know what you like and I’ll try to research and find a comparable lefty pair.

Like many other things, scissors are often made for special purposes… 8″ is actually a rather small sewing shear. I’m guessing you’re looking for tailor points, which are small, straight scissors for heavy clipping?
Do you need left handled scissors with right handled blades, or true left handled scissors? Have you tried a pair of Fiskar’s microtip, which can be used by many people either right or left handed?

You may also wish to check with http://www.kaiscissors.com to see what true left handled scissors they may have (they’ve had the left handle/right blade type on their site for a number of years, but I understand they also make left blade/left handle). Kai is my current favorite brand of sewing scissors (I’m an ambi, but cut right handed most of the time). Light, very sharp, good balance in the hand.
