Fabric to (like fabric) replace or cheap place to get online?

I’m making a dress and for a project and I was surprised at the cost of the three main fabrics I need to buy!!
Peau de soie (or bridal satin?) price i found: 14.99/yd
Taffeta price I found: 4.99/yd
shantung price I found 9.99/yd
Is their fabric that is similar to these but cheaper? Or a GREAT place to buy online at a discounted rate???? please help me I’m a broke college student thanks

If you’re talking real peau de soie, that’s an incredibly cheap price. $30-50 is more what I’d expect. If you don’t need the stiff hand, consider charmeuse and underlining. If you’re thinking poly satin, the good stuff is about $10-15 minimum. The other name for peau de soie is Duchesse satin.

Dupioni may do as a substitute for shantung, but is typically about the same price, and $10/yd is fairly good for silk.

I haven’t seen silk taffeta in awhile… I suspect the price you got is for a poly or acetate taffeta, as I’d expect about $25 for silk taffeta. (You do know that taffeta is prone to seam slippage and wrinkles like crazy, right?)
